Undersound

UnderSound aka Gareth Evans trained as a classical musician from the age of 5 and will turn his hand to many instruments including, guitar, drums, piano, trumpet, French horn, tuned percussion, ‘cello and flute.
In November 2006 he was introduced to High Contrast who asked Gareth to play some guitar and piano on two of his tracks ‘Sleepless’ and ‘Chances’ which featured on the ‘Tough Guys Don’t Dance’ album.
Inspired by this, (understandably), Gareth started producing and dj’ ing Drum and Bass himself. Within a matter of months he had begun racking up an impressive list of live sets as a resident at the acclaimed ‘Aperture’ night alongside artists such as, Danny Byrd, Lynx, High Contrast, Logistics, Sol I.D, Sabaruko, D – Bridge, Utah Jazz and Randall, as well as playing at other nights in Cardiff, Mansfield & Bristol.
Since being on the Cardiff Drum and Bass scene he has become good friends with fellow producer ‘Dan Marshall’ who has proved to be a massive influence on Gareth’s production skills and in return has played various keys, horns and guitars for Dan.
His producing went from strength to strength gaining him radio play on Jungle train, from DJ Druid in the Netherlands, Bass drive from DJ’s Stunna, Dan Marshall, Overfiend, Komatic, Technicolor and Calculon, and BBC Radio 1 from Nerm, Bethan Elfyn and Crissy Criss. He has recently had a “spotlight” hour dedicated to his tunes by D Funk on Bassdrive.
This exposure proved extremely valuable as he was spotted by Future Thinking Records in the summer of 2008, who have signed ‘Meet me in my shadow’ for a back to back vinyl release in spring 2009 with ‘Brother’.
He has since gone on to sign tune after tune with Influenza media, Phunkfiction records, Point 9 Audio, Ennex records, Funkstar records, a full length album out now on Liquid Brilliants, and an E.P set for Hustle Audio.
He is becoming more in demand as a remixer, having reworked ’26 Police’ for hiphop/reggae acts Savana and Junior Reid, ‘Lost voice’ for Oxford Indy sensation ‘Ute’, ‘Headbumps’ for fellow dnb artist Druid, and recently a remix of ‘still standing’ for Miami girl group ‘anything but monday’ which is out soon on Universal records.
There’s plenty more to look forward to including, forthcoming vinyl and digital releases, some exiting colaberations with some great artists such as Dan Marshall, Bionic1, Druid, and decade. And more session work on the go with some huge names including, Blame, Dan Marshall, S.P.Y, and High contrast. Watch this space …………… the journey continues.
